A Medicolegal Review Study on Medication Misadventures (Causes and Prevention)

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to document the problem of medication misadventures, to discuss the reasons for these misadventures, and to suggest methods to prevent them from occuring. The health care system has many cheeks and balances built in to prevent misadventures from reaching the patient. Misadventures that do reach the patient usually result from more than one break down or weakness in the system. This paper deals with the contributions of the physician, pharmacist, nurse in causing and preventing misadventures. The roles of the patient and pharmaceutical manufactures in contributing to and preventing misadventures also are discussed
