Abstract
In 1949, Waldbott reported the first case of fatal anaphylactic shock due to penicillin-G and since then, the anaphylactic shock, either fatal or non-fatal due to many antibiotics were reported. A table of antibiotics which cause anaphylactic shock commonly and rarely was presented and the incidence in literature was described. The statistics of anaphylactic shock due to antibiotics in Korea is still not clear but auther presented the cases of shock of penicillin and strepto mycin in Korea and showed the most common fatal cause of anaphylactic shock in Korea. The mechanisms and pathology of anaphylactic shock were discussed. The clinical features were described and main features are acute respiratory obstruction, ?shock and allergic skin manifestation. The methods of prevention of anaphylactic shock were presented and emphasized to take careful past history of allergic side reaction to antibiotics as well as other drugs because the entity of antigen is not well known yet in most case except penicillin and recommended a prick skin test in each case despite the reliability is still equivocal. The tre atment of anaphylactic shock were described including cardiac resuscitation in case of cardiac arrest.
