Abstract
Wound healing has received much attention and extensive literature dealing with the repair process has been published by many researchers. However, in recent years interest has been centered almost exclusively on the early phase of the healing process. For the practical determination of the late phase of wound healing we observed collagenisation and elastogenesis in wound lesions and regeneration of epidermis from the 3rd to 40th week after the infliction of wounds. Skin flaps of 2x2 cm were removed 3,5,7,9,13,15,20,25,30 and 40 weeks for examination after the infliction of wounds. Each flap was fixed in formalin solution for H&E, van Gieson and orcein stain. The results were as follows: 1. Normalization of the regenerated epidermis was completed in 20 weeks after the infliction of wound. 2. Crosslinkage of newly formed collagen fibers was active in the wound until 11 weeks after the infliction of wound, 3. Elastagenesis of wound was incomplete until 40 weeks after the infliction of wound.
