Pedestrian Injury
Yoon-Seong Lee
Department of Forensic Medicine, Seoul National University, College of Medicine
Abstract
The matters related to the traffic victims become more delicate and complicated. All too often the autopsy of the traffic victim is conducted in great detail, yet only a listing of the injuries and the determination of the cause of death are recorded. Any attempt by the pathologist to draw conclusions from the injuries with respect to the reconstruction of the accident is generally avoided. The assessment of a traffic casualty must include not only the victim but also the vehicle and the circumstances of the accident. However, autopsy findings with toxicological results are most important to evaluate the causalty between the accident and the injury. It is mandatory for the pathologist to understand the mechanisms and characteristics of pedestrian injurles.
