Death Certificates

Abstract
Like any other record, a death certificate can become extremely Important should there be a law suit. The cause of death physician lists must reflect physician's honest opinion and not be a source of potential embarrassment for physician at a later date. If there is no reasonable basis for reaching a definitive conclusion as to the cause of death, or if physician is not sure and does not wish to venture an opinion, do not guess on the death certificate. State that physician has no opinion. However, do not purposely avoid stating the cause of death or list an crronecous cause of death or any other information in an attempt to be evasive or protective.
